How We Invented Custom Opacity Frosted Glass Graphics?!

Our customer came to us looking to move beyond standard frosted window film for their national dealership décor program. Instead of the typical OEM frost with fixed opacity, they wanted something lighter—maintaining a frosted look while allowing silhouettes and movement to be visible. At the same time, their logo needed to remain completely clear. Traditionally, we’d achieve this by kiss-cutting and weeding a logo out of frosted vinyl. But standard frosted films don’t offer the level of transparency they were after. Since a material like this doesn’t really exist off the shelf, we had to engineer the effect through print. Oh, and the customer needed a solution in less than a week. Here’s how we made it happen…
01_Challenge
Create a frosted window graphic that keeps the logo crystal clear while still allowing visibility through the frost.
02_Solution
Traditional frosted films are too opaque, and nothing on the market allowed the level of see-through visibility the customer needed for safety. Since no material existed that could give a frosted look and still reveal shapes behind the glass, we developed one from scratch. We started with an opacity guide so they could choose their exact level of visibility.
We then printed that transparency onto ultra-clear PET to create a frosted look with a fully clear logo. This new approach delivered an effect no standard frosted vinyl could achieve—while also cutting cost by removing kiss-cutting, pre-masking, and weeding. We developed and installed it within days, and it quickly became the brand standard across all dealerships.
